# Paying with a card issued in India

> How top-ups and auto-reload work when your saved card was issued in India, and what to do when a bank authorisation or a reload fails.

Cards issued in India follow a Reserve Bank of India rule for recurring charges: a business may charge your card while you are not present only after you have authorised it once with your bank, and the bank must notify you before each charge. That is why top-ups and auto-reload on an Indian card work a little differently in Verbeo.

<Info>
  Your balance, rates, and call billing are unchanged. Only the way money reaches your wallet is different.
</Info>

## Adding funds

Manual top-ups on an Indian card always go through Stripe's secure checkout. Click **Top Up Wallet** on the Billing page, choose an amount, then **Continue to secure checkout**. Checkout opens with your saved card already shown, so you do not need to type it again. Your bank then asks you to confirm, usually with a one-time password sent to your phone or a prompt in your banking app. Once you confirm, the funds land in your wallet immediately.

## Turning on auto-reload

Auto-reload tops up your wallet when the balance drops below a threshold you set. On an Indian card it needs a one-time bank authorisation (an e-mandate) before it can run.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Turn the switch on">
    On the **Billing** page's **Wallet** tab, turn on the **Auto-Reload** switch. The dashboard starts a one-time bank authorisation on your saved card.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Complete the bank prompt">
    Your bank asks you to confirm with the same OTP or app prompt you see when paying online. Approve it. This authorises future reload requests; nothing is charged now.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Wait for activation">
    The authorisation activates a few minutes later. Auto-reload shows **Bank authorisation activating** until then, and **Bank authorisation active** with your card's brand once it is done.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Pick a threshold and a reload amount">
    Set the balance that triggers a reload and how much to add. Funds arrive about a day after the request, so the threshold should cover more than a day of usage. The dashboard suggests one from your recent spend.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  If your balance is already below the threshold when you enable auto-reload, the dashboard offers **Add funds now** so you do not wait a day for the first reload.
</Note>

## What happens on each automatic reload

When your balance drops below the threshold, Verbeo requests a reload from your bank. The RBI rule fixes what happens next:

1. Your bank sends you a notice of the upcoming charge. Some banks ask you to approve it.
2. The charge settles about a day (26 hours) later, and your wallet is credited then.
3. Once requested, a reload cannot be cancelled, by you or by Verbeo.

While a reload is pending, the Billing page shows a banner with the amount and the time after which your bank completes it (the credit appears once Stripe confirms, usually within the hour), and **Payment History** shows a **Scheduled** row. The banner stays until the funds arrive, even if you turn auto-reload off.

<Warning>
  Calls are still billed while a reload is pending. If you need funds sooner, use **Add funds now** on the banner: that top-up goes through checkout, lands immediately, and is separate from the pending reload, which still arrives later.
</Warning>

You also receive a low-balance email with an **Add funds** link when the balance drops below your threshold.

## Limits and eligibility

* Each automatic reload is capped at **\$150** for cards issued in India. Above that amount your bank requires a one-time password per charge, which an automatic reload cannot supply. Manual top-ups have no such cap.
* Only **Visa and Mastercard** cards issued in India can be authorised for automatic reloads. Other cards can still be used for manual top-ups.
* Some banks do not support authorisations in US dollars. If yours does not, no authorisation is issued and auto-reload cannot be enabled on that card. Manual top-ups still work.

## If something goes wrong

| What you see | What it means | What to do |
| - | - | - |
| One-time bank authorisation needed | Your card has not been authorised yet, or the authorisation was reset. | Turn on **Auto-Reload** on the **Billing** page's **Wallet** tab and complete the bank prompt. |
| Your bank did not issue an authorisation for this card | The card is not Visa or Mastercard, or your bank does not support authorisations in US dollars. | Save a different Visa or Mastercard card, or keep using **Top Up Wallet**. |
| Reload amount must be \$150 or less | The reload amount you chose is above the cap for cards issued in India. | Lower the reload amount. Use manual top-ups for larger sums. |
| Your bank did not approve the notice | The bank's notice for the reload was declined, so the reload did not happen. Verbeo asks again the next time your balance is low. | Approve the next notice, or top up through **Top Up Wallet**. After three failures auto-reload turns off. |
| Authorisation cancelled at your bank | The e-mandate was cancelled at your bank. Auto-reload has been turned off and one email explains how to verify again. | Turn auto-reload on again and complete the bank prompt. |
| This card can't be used for automatic reloads | The card is not eligible, so no authorisation is attempted. | Use **Top Up Wallet**, or save a Visa or Mastercard card issued in India. |

## Changing or removing your card

The bank authorisation is tied to the card it was created on. Changing or removing your saved card removes the authorisation and turns auto-reload off. Save the new card, then turn auto-reload on again to authorise it. A reload requested before the change still arrives; it cannot be cancelled.
