# Get tool

> Retrieve one tool, custom or native, with its secrets masked.

Returns a single tool of either kind. Header values and a Twilio Account SID come back as `"********"`, and the Twilio auth token not at all: see [Secrets are never returned](/api-reference/tools/overview#secrets-are-never-returned).

## Errors

| Code | Status | When |
| - | - | - |
| `NOT_FOUND` | 404 | No such tool, or it belongs to another workspace: `Tool not found`. The two are deliberately indistinguishable. |
| `VALIDATION_FAILED` | 422 | `id` is not a UUID. |
